December 2023 Donation Drive For Harvest Manitoba Celiac Hampers
THE NEED NOW IS MORE THAN EVER
We are starting our December campaign a little earlier this year as the request for gluten free food hampers has risen from the food banks supplied by Harvest Manitoba in the province.
As we move into The Season of Charity, we are asking that you remember the Manitoba Chapter of the Canadian Celiac Association as a part of your holiday gift giving.
The Manitoba Chapter has again, decided to approach those living with Celiac Disease in Manitoba to remind them that not everyone is able afford gluten free food. For the past two years of this initiative, we have had a consistent request for hampers. However, the past few months as prices appear to not be stabilizing; more individuals are finding it difficult to put safe food on their table.
The need for safe gluten free food has increased.
We are asking that you please consider setting aside a small portion of your donation budget to support our Manitoba Harvest Gluten Free Hamper Initiative. Consider donating what you spend on a couple loaves of gluten free bread or a couple boxes of gluten free breakfast cereal. We estimate that each hamper has cost the chapter on average approximately $15, but we are seeing an increase in prices for procurement, and an increase in the number of requests. We hope you can help us reach our goal of $6000 which should cover a good portion of the hampers for 2024, if the need continues to rise as we are currently experiencing.
Our subcommittee of hardworking volunteers work to obtain donation of gluten free food producers, make bulk purchases of gluten free food for the hampers, coordinate volunteers, pack hampers and assist to sort food. This year in coordinating efforts with Harvest, we are working to find ways to supply more hampers to try and meet the requests which are at an all time high. This year we have packed 600 kits already which brings us to 1200 over the past 3 years of the initiative. We know that we would not be able to do this with out the generosity of our community in Manitoba.
For that, WE THANK YOU!
There are many positive things that have come out of the pandemic and one we are very proud of is solidifying our working relationship with Harvest Manitoba, in insuring safe food for those living with Celiac Disease in Manitoba. We know that every dollar counts.
Please take into consideration that the Chapter provides tax receipts for donations by cheque over $20. All electronic donations through Canada Help or PayPal through our webpage automatically have a receipt generated. If you are not able to provide a financial donation, but would like to help. Please reach out as we are looking for individuals to help with procuring food, pack hampers or volunteering at events.
Thank you for listening and for your support of the Manitoba Celiac Disease Community!
