December 2022 Donation Drive For Harvest Manitoba Celiac Hampers
As the Christmas season ramps up, we are asking that you remember the Manitoba Chapter of the Canadian Celiac Association as a part of your holiday gift giving. The Manitoba Chapter has decided to approach those living with Celiac Disease in Manitoba to remember that not everyone is able to put gluten free food on their table. This past year has been particularly hard and appears to be becoming more difficult for individuals.
Please consider setting aside a small portion of your budget to support our continued Manitoba Harvest Gluten Free Hamper Initiative. The Manitoba Chapter has had a relationship with Harvest Manitoba for a number of years prior to the pandemic where donated food was collected at our in person meeting and dropped off at Harvest.
It came to our attention in February 2021, that Harvest was not able to sort for Gluten Free food as the pandemic had restricted their activities and they had moved to providing hampers to those in need. The Manitoba Chapter has held a Gluten Free Food and Fund Drive on May16th at the Forks for the past two years to collect gluten free food donations. In addition, a portion of monies collected over the Month of May and for our Walk-a-Thon in June were dedicated to procuring gluten free food for the hampers.
A subcommittee of the Board solicited donations from gluten free food producers and purchased additional GF food as needed to be placed into the kits. To date, we have had many packing events since beginning this initiative where individuals gave of their time to pack gluten free hampers and WE THANK YOU! We have packed over 600 hampers since we started this. We estimate that each hamper has cost the chapter approximately $12 but we are seeing with our upcoming packing event that the price for procurement has gone up. We hope you can perhaps cover the cost of a kit or a little more.
We are planning to keep this relationship going with Harvest as food security and access to safe gluten free food for those living in Manitoba is a priority. We would like to make sure that funds continue to flow to keep this initiative going and support people in the Province of Manitoba who require gluten free meal options.
We are asking that you consider covering the cost of one or more of our hampers to be packed in the new year. Also take into consideration that the Chapter provides tax receipts for donations by cheque over $20. All electronic donations through Canada Help or PayPal through our webpage automatically have a receipt generated.
We would like to set the goal of $3000 which would cover the entire cost of approximately 200 hampers.
Presentation begins at 11 It is a meeting with a presenter Melissa Secord, National Canadian Celiac Assocation Executive Director and a GLUTEN FREE POTLUCK!
Reps from Epicure, Sunset Gourmet, Amanda Lynn Gluten Free, and Piccola Cucina with samples and goods to purchase will have their vendor tables set up!

We cannot guarantee that items are prepared in kitchens that are completely dedicated, we ask that you provide as much information regarding your prepared food for others to feel safe.
